About Kowhai Cottage

Kowhai Cottage is a Reggio Emilia inspired childcare centre located at our Victory site in Nelson. With a focus on experiential learning, Kowhai Cottage offers a calm, enriching and supportive environment in which children can explore, create and express themselves. Children are encouraged to take ownership of their learning and are offered a range of resources and facilities to cater to their needs and interests, including a play garden and art studio. Kowhai Cottage also helps to prepare children for their transition to school by fostering valuable life skills such as resilence and mindfulness and encourages children to make healthy food choices by offering a nutritious menu.

Hours

Our hours of operation are 7:30am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday.

Enrollment & Fee's

We recommend that parent's and/or guardians come in meet the staff and have a walk through the centre before making any decisions. This is also a good opportunity to ask questions and get a feel for our philosophy, programme & curriculum experiences. Enrollment forms are avaliable from our office or can be viewed/downloaded below & completed forms ensure your child's place on our waiting list.

Lunch Options

At Y Kids we offer a lunch option for a cost of $4.00 (These can be permanent or for casual bookings)

FREE Hours

Y Kids offers 30 FREE Hours* to all children aged between 3-5 years old. There is a maximum of 6 hours per day as part of the 20 free hours. Any extra hours above this are charged at our hourly rate. We do not charge any additional optional charges for children receiving 30 free hours. *Conditions Apply

WINZ Subsidies

WINZ Subsidies are avaliable, these are calculated by WINZ on hours of attendance. Application forms are avaliable from our office or avaliable to download/view below.
Child absences from the centre are charged full fee's A period of two weeks can be claimed each year as a holiday and charged out at 50% discount. No lunch fees are charged during this time. There is no fees chargfed for public holidays when the centre is closed.
Y-Kids offers a family discount of 10% to any family that has two or more children attending our centre.
